Hudson Beach, FL

A small beach community just west of U.S. 19 in Pasco County. A Community of crisscrossing canals. Most people have canals in their backyard. Affording the opportunity for boating, jet skiing, or just soaking up some good ole fashioned sun. Some neighborhoods in Hudson consist of: Sea Pines, Cape Cay, Driftwood Isles, Port Hudson, Hudson Beach Estates, Waterway Shores, Sunset Estates, Sea Ranch, and Signal Cove.

How were these canals created?

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all Mother Nature. Hudson Beach is one the largest artificial canal cities in the U.S. Boasting over 25 miles of inland waterways. Of which were canals blasted by the Army Corps of Engineers in the late 1950’s and throughout the 1960’s.

Blasting Recent in the News:

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) reached another milestone today in the ongoing effort to expedite the EAA Reservoir Project. Blasting began on the project site for the canals needed to deliver water into the 6,500-acre Stormwater Treatment Area (STA) component of the project. This important Everglades restoration project reduces harmful discharges to the northern estuaries from Lake Okeechobee and sends more clean water south to Everglades National Park and towards Florida Bay.”
